We don't just manage your IT. We build what your business needs.

Resolve Information Technology is an IT and software company in Malvern, working with small businesses across Worcestershire, Herefordshire and Gloucestershire. We keep your technology running — and, because we are developers, we build the tools and automation that take the friction and waste out of how your business actually works.

Founded in 2001, Resolve is owned and run by Tim Winstanley and his wife, Carol.

Three things most IT firms don't have together

Most IT companies do one thing: they keep your systems running. We do that too — and we're good at it. But it isn't what makes Resolve useful.

Software development

We are developers. When something is worth building, we build it ourselves — rather than send you off to buy someone else's product.

IT support

We run and look after the everyday technology your business depends on — the systems, the security, the things that simply have to work.

Small-business experience

Decades of hands-on experience of how small businesses actually run — and where their time and money really go.

That combination is the whole point. Because we run the systems you already use, we are unusually well placed to see where a piece of software or AI would genuinely save you time and money — and, just as importantly, where it would be a distraction not worth paying for. And because we are developers, when something is worth doing, we can build it ourselves.

What that means for you is plain enough: less wasted time, fewer mistakes, systems that make the work easier — and honest advice about what is worth doing and what isn't.

It started with a project that wasn't his

Tim Winstanley began his career as an electronic engineer, working for the Ministry of Defence right at the dawn of the personal computer. Computers had been the ambition since boyhood, and digital electronics was the way in.

The turning point came at a Worcestershire company that built CAD/CAM software. Tim was there to install the equipment it ran on — but when the team needed a small software project finished, he volunteered for it, even though it wasn't strictly his job. It went better than anyone expected. That led to a bigger project, and the bigger project led to a career: years of software development work, building bespoke systems and solving hard problems for demanding clients.

By 2001, Tim had set up Resolve — to bring that kind of serious development experience to smaller businesses, the ones who could never normally afford it.

Our AI work didn't start with ChatGPT

Here is the part people find surprising. Resolve was working with AI in 2007.

That year, Tim was commissioned by Amcor — the global packaging group — to build software that used computer vision: the machine analysis of images. The system worked well enough that the same approach was later taken into the research-and-development operation of a major international food manufacturer.

So while a great many firms first met AI in 2023, Resolve had been applying it to real industrial problems for the better part of two decades. When we say we understand this technology, we are not repeating something we read — we were building with it long before it became a buzzword.

"People don't want to buy a computer. They want a problem solved."

That is how Tim has worked for forty years, and it is how Resolve works now. We don't walk into a business and talk about AI. We start with the problem, and reach for whatever genuinely fixes it.

For a long time, the honest answer to a small business was often "that would help — but it would cost more than it's worth." That changed in October 2025, when AI-assisted development, in experienced hands, became genuinely reliable. Work that would once have cost a small business far more than it could justify can now be done at a price that makes sense. Custom software and automation stopped being something only big companies could afford.

It also turned a piece of Tim's own curiosity into a product. When he first saw what the latest AI could do, his question wasn't "what can it write?" — it was "does it have an API?" Within weeks he was building software to read business email and pull out the tasks and commitments buried in it. That became Sentinel, Resolve's own tool for making sense of an Office 365 inbox — now in pilot with local businesses.

Who you actually deal with

Resolve is small, and that is deliberate. When you call, you reach the people who know your business — not a queue, and not a script.

Tim Winstanley

Founder

Forty years in software and electronics — and still the person doing the building.

Carol Winstanley

Co-owner

Carol runs the operational side — the finances, the scheduling, and the day-to-day question of who is doing what, where and when. She is the steady hand the business runs on.

Kitty Clarke

IT Support

Kitty joined Resolve in 2016. She handles IT support, and is increasingly the one putting the latest AI tools to practical use day to day.

Being small means we know your setup without being reminded of it, and you deal with the same people every time. For the businesses we work with, that is exactly what they want.

Local, and it matters

We are based in Malvern, and we know that what works in London often doesn't work here. Rural broadband, local supply chains, the practical realities of running a small business in the countryside — these aren't abstractions to us. They are our daily life too.

Outside work, Tim chairs Malvern Joggers, the local running club — and built the app the club runs on. It's a small example of the idea behind everything Resolve does: with the right tools and the right experience, you can have software shaped exactly around what you need, instead of bending the way you work to fit someone else's product.

Our principles

Accessible

You can reach us — by phone, by email, in person. When you need help, you get a person who knows your name.

Honest

We tell you what you need to hear, not what you want to hear. If your setup is fine, we'll say so. If something needs changing, we'll explain why — without the hard sell.

Reliable

We turn up when we said we would, do what we said we'd do, and charge what we quoted. After 25 years, that reputation is the business.

Let's talk

Whether you need dependable IT support or want to find out what could genuinely make your business run better, the first conversation is free — and there is no sales pitch.
